Mission Statement

The Norfolk Farmers Market is a non-profit, town-sponsored marketplace for farmers and artisans. Its objectives are to increase growth for local vendors, to supply its customers with fresh food and high-quality handmade goods, and to foster respect for local agriculture and artisans.

Our Community Programs

Because healthy living is important, we are committed to helping our neighbors find success in their choices. This is why we have developed some unique programs to our market:

Barnadette Bucks (Food Assistance)

Fully funded by donations from our kind neighbors and grants we receive from local groups, our Food Assistance program is our most ambitious service yet. Since 2018, the Norfolk Farmers Market - via the town’s churches and town hall - supplies local families and individuals who do not have the disposable income to spend at a Farmers Market with “Barnadette Bucks” - market money that recipients can spend at ANY food vendor at the market without having to reach into their own pockets. Vendors who receive Barnadette Bucks can exchange them with the Committee for real cash, thus allowing our neighbors access to the Market where they typically might not have been able and our vendors access to customers they typically might not ever see. For more information on how to make a donation, email or stop in and see Angie at our manager table.

Market Bucks

Market Bucks are similar to Barnadette Bucks but customers must purchase them dollar-for-dollar to be able to use them at the Market. ANY and ALL vendors accept Market Bucks, and like the Barnadette version, vendors return them to the Committee for US-approved currency. The purpose of Market Bucks is mostly to give customers a means of gifting the Norfolk Farmers Market to friends and family, but we occasionally raffle some Bucks off, too, so keep your eyes open!

Friend of the Market

Our friend of the market pin is now a collector’s item! For 15 years, our friends discount has helped to fund our marketing efforts and also called attention to some products that our customers may not have noticed through vendor discounts. Going forth, the pins are only $5 and strictly for fun. Any discounts that a vendor chooses to offer will be available to everyone…not just pin holders. Any proceeds from our pins will go towards the operating costs of the market.

Cook the Market

On the first Saturday of each month, we will offer a Chef Demo from Chef Marie Christine Perry. She will use ingredients exclusively from our vendors to develop something that, when you walk by, will get your mouth watering! It is fun to watch, but even more fun to sample. Take a recipe home and try it yourself!

Marie-Christine learned the basics of bourgeois French cooking from her mother and grandmothers and expanded her knowledge as the family traveled the world with her father, a French army officer. She worked for a private chef in Paris to finance her studies and went on to Rome and Florence to study Italian cooking. She continued the learning experience as a line chef at Le Mistral, Little Italy, and Maggie’s in San Francisco then moved to Sonoma County where she worked in several restaurants and wineries.
